South Side Houston is a wreck
Man I am tired as hell. I tried getting a generator for my parents (who are unprepared and think my preps are excessive) all day sunday. Well I didn't have any luck until my buddy at costco called me to tell me the generators came in.
So I drive alll the way from Austin to Houston to drop off supplies...it was like "I am legend" on the south side. The hood was pitch black, and rubble was piled on all sides of the street from people clearing debris. My dad is now going to jump on board with the preps. It is sad it takes a disaster for people to listen.... Needless to say, now I gotta re-up my preps. :banghead: I am a good son I guess. :smokin: |
Re: South Side Houston is a wreck
Yeah you are. Good for you helping out your folks like you did, in spite of them not getting it sooner. Hopefully any one of us would have done the same thing.:D

You are a good son, that's what preps are for, family emergencies.
Well Done! :applause_ |
Re: South Side Houston is a wreck
I just thank god I was exposed to WTPRN.COM because if I had never stumbled upon that I'd be in the dark.
lol...they got a kick out of my canned apples. :D FEMA proves itself as another useless bueracracy. There are FEMA "pods" where people can pickup MRES and H20, BUT the trucks aren't arriving to deliver the goods.... hmmmmmmmmmm :sarcasm: Feel sorry for the poor people who are ass-out. One thing that pisses me off is the complete failure of the infrastructure. There was NO GASOLINE from HEMPSTEAD all the way into HOUSTON. WAY TO GO FEMA! GREAT PLANNING! I hope Micheal Chertoff has a large group of bodyguards :sarcasm: .... I know about 10 people who would love to, well you know what they'd like to do. |
Re: South Side Houston is a wreck
Farther south and east you go - the worse it gets...
I donated some preps tooo - The neighbor is taking a pile of stuff into town this morning to offset the ineffectiveness of the PODS. When I told him I had some stuff for him to take, he was excited... (" whoa.. cool great") When he saw the pile this morning- he gave me a funny look- like "WTF are you doing w/ all this?" :D |

feels good to have my shit together to some extent. Most my preps this year have been "fighting load" |
Re: South Side Houston is a wreck
P.S. CRYSTAL BEACH is completely destroyed. It looks like GodZilla came in and leveled everything. I've partied many of times on that beach...its sad man.
My fishing pier off 61st and Seawall Bldv is GONE :no_ma: I'm sick... I can't wait to go home after work and relax. I am drained. |

Re: South Side Houston is a wreck
Wow. I watched Houston tv on the net the first 2 days and the Houston mayor looked like he was chewing nails over the FEMA BS then. FEMA had not handed out any water and was making it sound like no local distribution points had been set up and the mayor said they were, now where is the stuff? FEMA answered on the road from San Antonio. FEMA used to be effective, but now they are mostly in the way. In Galveston people were saying FEMA messed up local communication capabilities. sheesh!
Good for you helping your parents. Everyone should have at least a 3 day disaster kit. It is just common sense. But I'm glad you found them a generator. And thank heaven for this cool front. A lot of elderly die in bad heat after a storm. It strains the heart. |

Re: South Side Houston is a wreck
I got to hangout at my Aunt pad in Bayou Vista two weeks ago. It had ben there 13 years prior. I hope Bayou Vista didn't get destroyed. That is where my uncle stays and he is retired and disabled....
The fishing pier is just sad man...I have so many memories with my dad, uncle, and my close friends on that pier. I use to drive all the way down from Austin and when I'd get there I'd load up a cooler and call up my buddies, and we go fishing all night and drink beer...smoke a doob....hope they can fix it. <img src="http://img110.mytextgraphics.com/photolava/2008/09/16/pierwithupperdecksplicedt-4bvv1alv2.jpeg"[/IMG] |
Re: South Side Houston is a wreck
People need to take the hint and not rebuild. Moving elsewhere is the logical option.
I wonder if the insurance companies will even offer hurricane insurance on the gulf coast anymore? After Katrina they should have realized the possibility for disaster. |

Re: South Side Houston is a wreck
lol pretty funny that your dad is now jumping on board. These are the same people you see lining up to get their FEMA food because they never prepared. They are the same people who you see on the streets robbing, looting etc.
Of course, before the storm you looked like a nut case for preparing. If a storm ever hits near me I am sure as heck not leaving until everything is re-stabilized. I'll be in my shelter, with my guns, drinking water and all my food. |

Thanks Pat that article is a classic lol.
300 National Guardsmen out of food and water in Houston 05:59 AM CDT on Monday, September 15, 2008 Associated Press HOUSTON – Hundreds of first responders at two staging areas in Texas for Hurricane Ike have run out of food and water. Congressman John Culberson said Sunday that 300 National Guardsmen, state troopers and other emergency workers are going hungry at a high-school football stadium — and at another staging area on Houston’s west side. Culberson blamed FEMA for the gaffe and says he tried to contact Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff, who is touring flood-stricken areas of Texas. Culberson says several buses full of gas are sitting idle at the stadium while crews await instructions. He called on area residents to take food and water to the crews at the stadium — despite official warnings for people to stay off Houston roads. <!-- vstory end --><!-- VELOCIT CONTENT ENDS HERE! --> |
